Each morning you'll awaken to a superb, creative multi-course breakfast served on our large enclosed sunporch as as you watch a spectacular sunrise over the glistening waters of the bay. Spend your day relaxing on the sunporch or in our guest lounge, reading in our library, or strolling and birdwatching in our flowering gardens. Venture out for sightseeing, visiting the many interesting galleries, museums, antique shops, parks and historic sights along the coast road, or sailing on one of America's most attractive waterways. We look forward to making your stay a memorable one that will bring you back again and again.
This historic 18th century home became well known in the early 20th century as the College Club Inn, hosting such notables as Eleanor Roosevelt who made regular visits with her entourage. The inn was on the route to Campobello Island in New Brunswick, Canada where the Roosevelt family spent their summers. As noted in the inn's journal, Mrs. Roosevelt particularly liked "the good food, the beautiful view of Penobscot Bay, the cleanliness and the lack of publicity."

Le Vatout
(View Listing)
|
|

|
Cozy, low-key and completely relaxed, Le Vatout Bed and Breakfast is a home that we’re blessed to share with our guests, our friends. A traditional New England farmhouse, it’s become our personal artists' retreat – its rooms are filled with paintings, photographs and found objects, and books beckon wherever there’s space. But life around here congregates in the kitchen; the hearth is Le Vatout's center, its heart. Outwardly, it’s nothing special, just a big old kitchen last upgraded years ago, no fancy fixtures, no polished granite, no industrial strength sink. What matters here is not appearance, what matters at Le Vatout is soul. Meals have substance, flavors have a twist, and old-fashioned conversation reigns as your hosts have a way with herbs and with words and know when to serve either.
Whether you crave the quiet pleasure of a cup of tea and a bowl of fresh fruit on the porch, favor a communal breakfast of paper-thin buckwheat pancakes served at the dining table flooded with sun or simply want to hang out at the kitchen island, dig into a crabmeat omelet and chat, at Le Vatout everything’s just different enough to delight.
We've been told that when asked what it meant, this strange little French snippet of a phrase, the founder of Le Vatout would gesture around him, at the fabulous garden, the beautiful house, and reply, "All of it – great food, good company, art and music and nature – Le Vatout means The Whole Thing." He's long moved on and we're honored to continue his legacy of hospitality and appreciation of life in this quiet corner of the world called Waldoboro.
Centrally located on the craggy shoreline of Mid-coast Maine, we're just a half an hour south of Camden, twenty minutes from Rockland, the Farnsworth and its famed Wyeth and Louise Nevelson collections, and two seconds away from nature. Pemaquid Point, with its dramatic granite formations and its pretty white lighthouse, is up the road, the quaint fishing village of Friendship up the other,
