Escape to the well-preserved historic port of Saint Michaels the Heart and Soul of the Chesapeake Bay known as "the town that fooled the British" due to the clever accomplishment of some early settlers. At the center of a unique and magical water world is this pretty waterfront village situated on the picturesque Atlantic mouth of the Chesapeake Bay studded with ocean-side gems. Travel up the beautiful Miles River where you can experience plenty of fascinating water tours, gourmet restaurants in candlelit elegance, unique specialty shops and charming bed and breakfasts in Maryland Eastern Shore area, relax and take a leisurely stroll to explore the quaint historic hamlet blessed with graceful churches, stately Colonial and Victorian homes, historic heritage, diverse shops dating back from the 18th and 19th centuries.

In St. Mary's Square, Saint Michaels you can see the "Mechanic's Bell" and across from the bell stands the former Methodist Church, built in 1839. If you like gothic churches then Union United Methodist Church built in 1895 is certainly one of the outstanding buildings standing proudly in the northeast section of St. Michaels. The old Victorian interior still retains the original colored glass windows and pipe organ. Walk the ‘Footbridge' joining Navy Point to Cherry St known as "Sweetheart or Lovers Bridge." What about “Hell's Crossing” the intersection that earned its nickname after the fights which often broke out among the watermen returning to their boats after a night out "on the town". Other places to visit are the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum and the waterside museum on Navy Point, where you'll find floating exhibits including a skipjack, a bugeye, a boat-building shop, an aquarium, water fowling not forgetting the Hooper's Strait lighthouse which dominates the area and a wonderful collection of sail, power and row boats, the largest and most important collection of its kind in the world.

The town of Centreville located in Queen Anne's County is a classic example of small town America, it has a relaxed lifestyle with gracious residents and tranquil tree-lined streets all quite characteristic. A past dating back to colonial times is evident in the architecture of simple, austere federal period dwellings as well as elegant Victorian era homes adorned with wrap-around porches. Other good bases to stay in bed and breakfast in Maryland Eastern Shore area are the interesting and picturesque towns of Elkton, North East and Earlville.

The Eastern Neck National Wildlife Refuge is a haven for fishing and boating enthusiasts, cyclists, bird watchers and nature lovers alike, it is also an immense conservation area for a variety of plant and animal life preserving numerous aquatic birds including swans, ducks, geese, kingfishers, heron, osprey, bald eagles and other water-loving creatures who make their homes along the reeds and rushes. Other recreational pursuits include hiking, horseback riding and cycling along flat, winding roads through scenic countryside. The surrounding beaches are ideal for swimming and family picnics, while quiet coves tucked along the peninsula offer good opportunities for fishing, canoeing, kayaking, sailing, windsurfing and water-skiing.

One of the oldest towns is pretty Oxford, located near the mouth of the Tred Avon River with stunning views, picnic tables and swings overlooking the river. Home to 6 marinas with transient boat slips for the boaters, it's also a fisherman's paradise and the town also has many bustling oystering businesses and visitors will appreciate it's rich history and charm. Nearby towns worthy of a visit providing easy access to sights are: Wittman, Cambridge and Vienna. Voted as "the 8th Best Small Town in America" is Easton, a historic center with Colonial and Victorian architecture, full of arts and culture it also offers casual and gourmet dining, shopping for all budgets from collectibles to fine antiques, eclectic art galleries, numerous public golf courses, while the splendid Chesapeake Bay caters for sailing, canoeing, kayaking and crabbing.

Called "The East Coast's Number One Family Resort” is this great beach resort of Ocean City, it claims excellent white sandy beaches and swimming in the clear waters, here you'll find marinas sparkling with yachts and boats of all sizes. The famous Boardwalk buzzes with activity and the entertainment is unsurpassed. Activities include great miniature golf courses, amusement parks and water attractions dot the island. The Ocean City Life Saving Station Museum located on the Boardwalk at the Inlet, is witness to a fascinating past with exhibits of ocean artefacts and salt-water aquariums. Airplane rides provide spectacular bird's eye views over the magnificent bays and it's the waterways that make this region so special. It's also a shopping mecca with an incredible array of fashionable boutiques, antique and artisan shops to suit the most discerning collector.

If you like colonial artefacts, then visit Julia A. Purnell Museum located in Snow Hill, a history museum exhibiting an eclectic collection of Eastern Shore artefacts dating from the colonial era to the present, alternatively a visit to the Furnace Town Historic Site and Nature Trail may be more up your street. At the Pusey Branch Nature Trial and the Nature Conservancy's Paul Leifer Nature Trail you can hike easily through beautiful convenient paths to the Nassawango Cypress Swamp and Pocomoke Forest. Pocomoke River State Forest and Park Goat Island Nature Trail provide these wonderful nature trails ideal for the hiking enthusiast.
