In Prairie Lakes Country you can experience one of nature's most amazing spectacles, the annual crane migration. For millions of years more than 500,000 sandhill cranes have descended upon the region of the Platte River Valley. Also in the Platte River Valley, you'll discover the first transcontinental railroad and Buffalo Bill's Scout’s Rest Ranch near North Platte in the Prairie Lakes Country.

You can tour his elaborate Victorian home and the big red barn filled with memorabilia at the Buffalo Bill Ranch State Historical Park and Recreation Area. Other towns offering a wide range of attractions are Curtis and Imperial. Visit the famous station of the Pony Express in and near Gothenburg. The building was used as a stop over for the famous Pony Express Riders of 1860-1861. The riders lost no time and would gallop in, pick up a fresh horse and rush back to the road in all weathers night or day to deliver the "express" mail to its ultimate destination in record time. There is a small log cabin with a toy chest full of old Pony Express paraphernalia. Whatever your interests you’ll find a wealth of exciting outdoor pursuits to suit all the family.
