Most famous and picturesque mountain is Mount Washington near the mountain village of Jackson located at the heart of the White Mountains, providing art galleries, shops, restaurants and endless outdoor sports. At 6,288 feet Mount Washington is the highest peak in the area where you can join all sorts of outdoor activities from mountain biking to hiking, or canoeing, swimming and fishing in the local lakes. For a most memorable scenic journey into a leisurely world of scenic rivers, forests and mountains for a spring, summer or fall foliage experience, a ride on the authentic Cog Railway, unique both in engineering feat and purpose, is a must as it crawls up the Northeast's highest peak at a heart-stopping 25 per cent gradient since 1869, it's considered to be the world's first mountain-climbing cog railway, it remains the only one of its kind still powered entirely by steam and is often described as "the road to the sky," it is over 142 years old and can boast of being the first mountain climbing transport. Another great attraction is the Conway Scenic Railway where you will travel back in time. Don't miss the pretty covered bridge that spans the Ellis River, it was named the "Honeymoon Bridge" and the locals have carried on with the romantic tradition with many newly married couples still have their photographs taken there. Also close by is, Echo Lake, Profile Lake, Cannon Mountain Ski area and the Cannon Aerial Tramway. The Whales Tale Waterpark is a 17-acre water park located in the White Mountains region. The park features 11 waterslides, a huge wave-pool, nearly half a mile of lazy river ride with a fantastic children's activity area and more. Not far away, you'll find The Former Site of the famous “Old Man of the Mountains”, New Hampshire's signature attraction the 'Great Stone Face,' a natural rock formation formed by the Ice Age.

Madison or Conway can serve as a starting point for other regional attractions and during the winter and summer months, offers some of the best skiing in New Hampshire where you can enjoy both seasonal varieties. Wildcat Mountain Ski Resort has 47 trails spread out over 225 skiing areas and was recently voted the #1 resort for its stunning beauty. You can also partake in white-water rafting, hiking, fishing, golf and mountain biking. Located in Glen is a "living museum", “Story Land” and a family attraction where fantasy lives, it also allows visitors to step back in time and re-enact life in early New Hampshire. The younger ones will love the 'Story Land' a children's oriented theme park where they can take a ride on a pumpkin coach or a pirate ship, and for anyone who is interested in exploring what's beneath the Earth's surface will get a kick out of Ruggles Mine, one of the oldest mines in the US that claims more than 150 different types of minerals.
