Just about everything there is meant specifically for learning about the Adirondacks, it's also an educational center and houses a gallery exhibiting paintings of the area by famous artists like Rockwell Kent and others including exhibits about logging and mining in the North Country. Westport and its marina are located on the beautiful shores of Lake Champlain in the Adirondacks Mountains and within easy walking distance of attractions, golf courses and shopping. A great winter-fun destination with the slopes of Gore Mountain close by making it a picturesque community with miles upon miles of cross-country trails. Bolton Landing nestled along the western shore of Lake George has two of the tallest mountains forming a spectacular backdrop, Black and Buck Mountains, rightly claims one of the most scenic settings in all of the Adirondacks. From the town, the panoramic views are simply magnificent. The shoreline is just as impressive with a series of cute little coves and dozens of islands, including Sagamore, the largest island that has become one of the most famous retreats in the Adirondacks. From the pretty town of Hague you can look out over the immense Lake George and marvel at the bright lights sparkling against the beautiful clear blue waters in the distance of alpine villages and towns. The surrounding area is considered by many to be the most beautiful and peaceful part of Lake George where it's renowned at being an anglers paradise for bass fishing you can find anywhere in New York State.
The southern Adirondack “metropolis” of Warrensburg benefits from its location near the confluence of the Hudson and Schroon rivers. On winter weekends the town's high street comes alive with ski-rack–laden vehicles on the way to and from Gore Mountain, in the spring, it's the popular white water rafting enthusiasts on their way to North Creek and Indian Lake to experience thrills and spills down the Hudson River Gorge and in the summer and fall months, visitors come to hike the picturesque trails, enjoy the lakes, rivers and forests and as Warrensburg has become known as the “Antique Capital of the Adirondacks” people come from all over to buy that special piece of antique or just stroll and browse along the 2-mile-long shopping mall.
Also within the Adirondacks region you'll find a chain of pretty towns and villages like Chestertown, North River, Crown Point, Willsboro, Thendara, Boonville and Lyons Falls to name but a few, linking up the many attractions and lively family-friendly vacation spots in summer and good base destination areas in winter.
