For the horse lover, Great Meadow and Glenwood Park offer steeplechase racing, polo, and other equestrian events including the Virginia Gold Cup and International Gold Cup. For the fox hunt enthusiast, The Plains is located in the Orange County Hunt and close to The National Sporting Library in Middleburg and many point-to-point races.
The Grey Horse Inn is just minutes from many wineries, Civil War battlefields (from Harpers Ferry to Manassas Bull Run) and antique shops. There is biking and fine dining, and for those who like to hike, fish or bird watch, the Blue Ridge Mountains, Skyline Drive, and Shenandoah River are nearby.
The Grey Horse Inn is also well suited for business travelers. Meeting facilities are available and our corporate rate includes a full breakfast. After a hard day of work, business travelers can relax in one of our spacious rooms with private bath and all the amenities.
A glimpse of the Old South awaits you in the beautifully restored circa 1800's mansion situated on four acres in the heart of Virginia Hunt Country. The Inn is ideally located in a quaint village setting surrounded by a large garden with old plantings and original outbuildings. Just beyond the garden is open pasture and views of unspoiled farmland with the Blue Ridge Mountains and vivid sunsets filling the western sky. These views are available for you to enjoy while dining out on one of our fine old fashioned porches.
The Grey Horse is a quiet place to retreat to, but is quite convenient to all local area events, vineyard tours and Civil War sites as well as a large selection of fine shops and restaurants to visit. We are only minutes away from Great Meadow Events. The Virginia Gold Cup and Friday evening Polo.
Welcome to the Grey Horse Inn Gardens
The gardens at the Grey Horse Inn were created in Spring 2002 by local landscape designer Linda Hostetler. Known for her passion for plants, in particular her tremendous knowledge of perennials, she carefully considered the color, shape, and size of foliage and flower to establish beauty and harmony in the design. Gently curving paths lead guests from a welcoming entrance to a secluded shade garden to vibrant sun gardens. Each area is planted for four season interest using a mix of broad leaf evergreen and conifers, deciduous trees, ornamental grasses, and unusual perennials and annuals. Stone walls and patios blend with the historic architecture of the Inn as do the ponds and statuary.
