The DeLano Inn has a long history. The land was originally plotted on November 4th, 1834, in what was then the Michigan Territory. The current house was built in1864 by David Doane Davis and his wife, Hannah. In 1879 the house was left in a will to the First Baptist Church by Hannah Davis. It was used as a parsonage and later a boarding house. The church could not afford to keep the house for long. It was sold in 1884 to Horace and Nellie Peck, who were successful bankers. After the Pecks moved to Kalamazoo, Michigan, the house was sold to Joseph Chaddock in 1890. The house was later sold first to Hiram DeLano, and then to Earl DeLano (Hiram's nephew) and his wife Mignon. Following Mignon's death in 1987, the house was puchased by Bob and Jean Ashley. After some re-decorating, the Ashleys opened the DeLano Inn. In 1998 the present owners, Scott and Karen Ehrich, purchased the home and continue to run the house as a bed and breakfast. Karen works outside the Inn, while Scott serves as fulltime innkeeper |
