Corea, Maine is a small fishing village located within the Town of Gouldsboro, Maine. Corea is undoubtedly one of the last true working lobster villages along the Maine coast and is arguably one of the most photographed harbors in the State.
|
While the village is comprised of only about 200 year round residents, it is located on the Schoodic Peninsula which is comprised of the Towns of both Gouldsboro and Winter Harbor. The Peninsula is known for having the only mainland portion of Acadia National Park at the tip of Schoodic Point. This section of Acadia, while only about 2000 acres, is not well known and therefore not heavily touristed, yet is only across the Frenchman Bay from the better known section located on Mt. Desert Island, approximately one hour away by car or 1/2 hour by passenger ferry or boat. Corea is very much off the beaten path, yet close to a variety of in-season restaurants as well as a variety of hiking areas such as the Petite Manan wildlife refuge; the Bold Coast Trails, Schoodic Mountain and , of course, Mt. Desert Island, the home of Bar Harbor.
