Explore the museums that are devoted to celebrating the Waterman's way of life and those who adore fine architecture will appreciate the many fine Victorian homes dotted around. There are no less than 4 pretty boat marinas and five waterfront parks adorn the shoreline. In Tydings Park, at the foot of Union Avenue, you’ll find the view quite spectacular. In 1791 Havre de Grace narrowly lost out to Washington, D.C. as the nation's capital and as a result, many streets such as Union, Congress, Washington and Lafayette bear the names of the noble revolutionary leaders and their ideals. If you like lighthouses then The Concord Point Lighthouse, one of the oldest lighthouses in continuous operation on the East Coast is worthy of a visit and it is located at the foot of Lafayette Street. Built in 1827, the lighthouse has been functioning for over 150 years and you can still see one of the cannons used in the defence of Havre de Grace. In 1789, Havre de Grace was seriously considered as the location for the Capital of the United States of America, but Washington, DC won by only one single vote!
