Take a fascinating stroll through the wonderful historic village and working farm where you can meet the craftspeople who continue the traditions of tradesmen from the 19th century, learn firsthand about life on the farm and experience the celebrations of day-to-day routines the rural Americans were once involved in. Opened in 1842, Howe Caverns were one of New York’s first and most visited natural attractions and still remain a premier venue today that offers adventure designed to enlighten, entertain, and educate and where visitors can take a journey 156 feet below ground, these spectacular majestic caverns of stalactites and stalagmites were a natural prehistoric world formed millions of years ago and they have an elevator entrance, brick walkways, strategic lighting and include a boat ride on the underground Lake of Venus. For an unusual cruise, try out the classic wooden boats. In an area rich with railroad history, you can also ride through Charlotte Valley on a Railroad carriage, it certainly takes visitors back in time with vintage rail cars and locomotives across the scenic wilderness of the Upper Susquehanna River Valley. The Railroad crosses the river twice over two steel-truss bridges, and travels through a variety of landscapes including forests and wetlands. Other activities include the only recreational indoor and outdoor go-kart racing facility that can be found at Northgate Speedway offering nine different style karts and four different track configurations.
