You can take a trip with a difference when you board the Duck Tour, this multipurpose vehicle travels by road then on the Delaware for a stunning view of the city. Visit the famous historic district where you can learn more about the making of the first American flag at the Betsy Ross House, Ben Franklin’s grave, Independence Hall, the Liberty Bell and the Philadelphia Museum of Art which sits at the top of the ‘Rocky Steps’ made famous by the hit movie “Rocky” and then relax in the Man Full of Trouble Tavern. Stroll through the historic waterfront and the enchanting cobbled streets and courtyards as you head for Penn’s Landing where you’ll find the Moshulu, the largest four-mastered sailing ship still afloat and offering superb cuisine.
Other historic landmarks are the house where Washington and Adams lived and worked for most of their presidencies when Philadelphia was the national capital, between 1790-1800. The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier lies within Washington Square. A short walk from the Liberty Bell is the American Indian Cultural Center, the heart of the American Indian community in the Delaware Valley here you can see a new statue of Chief Tamamend, the Lenape Indian chief who greeted William Penn. Want to see how your money is made? The Philadelphia Mint not only produces all denominations of coins, plus a wide variety of commemorative and gold coins and medals, some 1.8 million coins an hour, 32 million coins per day, and 13.5 billion coins are produced every year. There are huge bins filled with coins and the lobby walls display beautiful Tiffany mosaics that tell the story of how coins were made in ancient times. Upstairs, visitors can look down on a vast array of machinery tended by people producing coins and medals. For a quieter pace, the nearby towns also provide excellent attractions and amenities in Phoenixville, Malvern, Media and Montgomeryville.
