Don't miss the charming coastal region of Myrtle Beach a commercialised and lively town bursting with atmosphere, elegant architecture in colonial, Victorian and antebellum styles with a compact historic district and providing a variety of entertainment, shopping centers, restaurants and night clubs all close to spectacular popular beaches.
|
The glorious wide, white sandy beaches of the coastline known as the "Grand Strand" are superb and ideal for families, all along the Strand you can enjoy shell hunting, fishing, sailing, surfing, jogging, sunbathing and swimming in dazzling crystal clear waters, or just simply stroll on the 60 miles of beach. Biking or hiking in the area takes you down quiet scenic country roads past grand plantations and humble farmhouses alike. No matter which direction you head, you're never far from a river or creek.
For the keen golfer, you’ll find Myrtle Beach who perhaps rightfully claims to be the golf capital of the world, it has an average winter temperature in the fifties Fahrenheit and promotes year round play on more than 100 championship golf courses, some designed by Arnold Palmer, Robert Trent Jones, Jack Nicklaus and Tom and George Fazio. Walk the quaint streets, museums and galleries, shops, antique stores and eat in the excellent seafood restaurants. There are also giant shopping malls and factory outlets and a pay-as-you-ride park situated a block inland from the beach, offering a classic array of roller coasters, Ferris wheels, a circa 1915 merry-go-round, plus two go-cart tracks and multiple midway arcade games, the amusement park also provides water slides and game arcades as well as a few shipwrecks for divers to explore. On the North Strand, there is Little River, with a thriving fishing village and Pawleys Island, one of South Carolina's coastal areas oldest resorts.
