You’ll find this is a contemporary city with Victorian charm. Dubuque is the seventh largest city in the state of Iowa, yet it features a small-town’s warmth, friendliness, and freedom from hassles.

Situated in a beautiful, natural location along the Mississippi River, Dubuque is known for its steep hills and river bluffs. In fact, because of its hills and Victorian mansions, Dubuque is sometimes compared to San Francisco.

Settled in 1788 by French Canadian fur trader and early entrepreneur Julien Dubuque, this has been a vibrant river city since the early 1800s. Today Dubuque is a thriving city, with a population of nearly 62,000 people and a county population of nearly 90,000. More than one million tourists visit Dubuque annually to ride the riverboats, learn the history, and see the sights.

The Dubuque area is home to some of the friendliest people you'll meet anywhere in the Midwest. Take in the beautiful scenery, and enjoy the many interesting and exciting attractions throughout the area. Mississippi River history and Victorian mansions carved into towering limestone bluffs. Cruise on an authentic paddlewheeler.
