The Inn is located in Charlottesville's downtown historic district. It is four miles from Thomas Jefferson's home, Monticello, and one mile from the University of Virginia. 200 South Street Inn is two blocks from a bustling pedestrian mall filled with antique shops, bookstores, movie theaters and restaurants.
The larger house was built in 1856 for Thomas Jefferson Werenbaker, the son of a close friend of Thomas Jefferson. The building was a private residence for many years, and then for several decades it led a checkered career - girls' finishing school, brothel, boarding house. The transformation to an inn was completed in 1986.
Being a college town, most restaurants accept casually attired diners. At finer restaurants you may feel less out of place dressed neatly. For men, a tie is rarely required. Because we make so many reservations for our guests, our front desk staff generally has good luck obtaining reservations at local restaurants during busy stretches. We recommend getting reservations at the more popular restaurant well in advance for very popular times like Valentine's Day, any busy University of Virginia weekend, and peak Spring and Fall weekends. Call us. We're happy to help.

The Inn is located in Charlottesville's downtown historic district. It is four miles from Thomas Jefferson's home, Monticello, and one mile from the University of Virginia. 200 South Street Inn is two blocks from a bustling pedestrian mall filled with antique shops, bookstores, movie theaters and restaurants (so good, even the New York Times and Washington Post rave). There is even an indoor ice-skating rink. Besides Monticello, the Inn is near two other presidents' homes: Ash Lawn, the home of James Monroe, and James Madison's Montpelier. Twenty- five minutes to the west are the Skyline Drive and the Blue Ridge Parkway, where the beautiful countryside makes for perfect hiking and biking. The Old Michie Tavern, located only a quarter of a mile from Monticello and serving 18th century fare, is a nice stop for lunch. Several wineries in the area welcome visitors.

Historc Sight to see :-
The University of Virginia - The inn is located less than a mile from one of the nation's architectural jewels, the University of Virginia, founded by Thomas Jefferson in 1819.
Montipelier - James Madison's home, about 25 minutes north of Charlottesville. Often has various events and festivities on weekends.
Monticello - Thomas Jefferson's home located four miles from the Inn.
Ashlawn - James Monroe's home located six miles from the Inn, and two miles beyond Monticello. Wonderful summer evening musical events.
Michic Tavern - Historic tavern moved next to Monticello. Tours, fried chicken lunch available. Staff in period costume. Pronounced 'Mickey'.

Outdoor Activities :-
Balloon Rides - Available Seasonally.
Wineries - Central Virginia has a thriving wine industry. Some wineries we like are Oakencroft, White Hall, Jefferson, Barboursville, Horton, and Prince Michel.
Horseback Riding -
Hiking - Blue Ridge Mountains and Shenandoah National Park. Many wonderful hikes including Humpback Rock, a short steep hike with a rewarding, breathtaking (and allegedly 7 state) view of the Shenandoah Valley and beyond.
Golf - A modest public golf course is found in McIntire Park a mile away. Pen Park, four miles away, has a much nicer course, Meadowcreek. People associated with the University of Virginia can play on Birdwood Club's course.

Shopping, Movies etc.,
Bookstores - There are dozens of new and used bookstores in Charlottesville. New Dominion Bookstore is a beautiful independent bookstore located on the downtown mall. For used and rare books, The Blue Whale and Daedalus Bookshops are just a few blocks away. Daedalus has over 90,000 volumes.
The Downtown Mall - Charlottesville's Main Street is now a thriving pedestrian mall. The brick paved mall and the adjacent blocks are lines with specialty shops and restaurants. And amphitheater at one end is the home of many concerts including Fridays After Five, a very popular series with varied music. It runs from May to October.
Movies - The Regal Downtown six-plex cinema is on The Downtown Mall. Located two blocks from the I
