"Built as a private summer residence in 1879, The Inn at Pine Terrace was modeled on the design of a French nobleman's castle near Vienna. The original owners, wagon builders from Chicago, named their estate ""Mon Bijou"" (My Jewel). The three story mansion has been restored to its original Cream-City brick exterior. The interior has been carefully renovated, with special attention paid to the hand-carved woodwork, gracious furnishings and exquisite wall coverings. In addition to the abundant architectural details and beautiful grounds, the Inn also features a seasonal outdoor swimming pool. The Inn at Pine Terrace is one of the last and largest of the Victorian mansions still standing in Oconomowoc today and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Mon Bijou remained in the Schuttler family for over forty years and hosted such notables as Mark Twain, several American Presidents, and many of the country's beer brewing elite, including the Miller, Anheuser, Busch, and Pabst families, as well as railroad and industrial barons.

  Area Activities

Gardens/arboretum
"Oconomowoc, Wisconsin is located in the heart of the lake country, just off Interstate 94 between Madison and Milwaukee and under two hours from Chicago. Two crystal clear lakes enhance the city itself, where secluded waterfront properties distinguish Oconomowoc from other cities of its size. Serving as a second home to some of the wealthiest families in the Midwest, this area was once called the Newport of the Midwest, and large Victorians still dot the lakefront and tree-lined streets in the area. Oconomowoc is an Indian name meaning ""Where the Waters Meet"" or ""River of the Lakes"".
Walk from the Inn to the lakefront, shops and restaurants. While here, you may wish to go hiking, biking, or boating in our beautiful surroundings just a short drive from the Inn, venture into Milwaukee for a brewery tour, or experience one of our many regional golf courses just minutes from the Inn. We can give you ideas, recommendations, and directions. During every season there is always something to do! Whether it's cross-country skiing, visiting our renowned Festival of the Arts in August, Antique hunting, soaking up the fall colors, spring nature walks or pampering yourself at a spa, we have something for everyone."
