| The Sierra Nevada Avian Center is based in Quincy, California. The Avian Center's mission is to contribute to the conservation of birds and other wildlife and their habitats. Recent projects include conducting surveys for Plumas Corporation creek restoration projects in 2006 and 2008 including surveying for species such as Willow Flycatcher, Great Gray Owl, Northern Goshawk, Cascades frog, and western pond turtle and assessing potential impacts of restoration activities to special-status wildlife species. In 2005, the Avian Center partnered with Todd Sloat Biological Consulting in McArthur, California and EDAW in South Lake Tahoe, California to conduct point count surveys in the Lake Tahoe Basin. These surveys were part of the U.S. Forest Service, Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit, Multi-species Inventory and Monitoring Program, the results of which provided a baseline for long-term monitoring of bird populations in the Basin. |
